In the early 80s, after years of war, Cambodia was full of orphans in need of shelter and food. In 2011, UNICEF released a study saying that the number of orphans in Cambodia has increased by 75% over the past six years that was only about 23% of children in orphanages have lost a parent. According to estimation, there are 55,300 orphans in Cambodia, and the number of children living in orphanages is relatively small, with 1,945 children under 18 years old living in any institutions in 2010.
Accordingly, the Charitable Association of Cambodian Islamic Graduates (CACIG) has been sponsoring orphaned children since 2012, providing scholarships, vehicles, schools and educational materials aimed at providing hope to the orphans and developing the next generation of young people to get a good future. And we have implemented this project in several provinces: Kampong Chhnang, Tbong Khmum, Kandal, Prey Veng, Pursat, Kratie, Kampot.
The care of orphans has been taken seriously by Islam, according to the words of Prophet Mohammed (SAW): “I and the guardian of the orphans will be in the Garden like that,” indicating his forefinger and middle finger. ” [Prophet Muhammad SAW]
